I have a story to tell
One of the things I enjoy most about playing RPGs is coming up with the back story for my characters. I’ve done this in most of the MMOs I’ve played but for whatever reason I didn’t do an in depth background for any of my Guild Wars characters. They all had the same last name but that was so my friends could always tell who I was even if I created a new alt. In my head I figured they were all related some how but never got into the whys and hows of it. Now that Guild Wars 2 is being released some time this year I’ve started thinking about it more often. With the Hall of Monuments and personal story I want to go about connecting the past with the present in some way other than just in game items. I’m thinking of doing a series of journal entries leading up to the actual release of Guild Wars 2 which will give a bit more of a background story for my main character.
The hardest part is actually creating the character. Who is she? Why does she pick now to go out and explore more of the world? These are things I wonder about. Luckily ArenaNet gives you choices during character creation to help you define your character and eventually as you play you can expand on those choice with your personal story. Ultimately I plan to play as a Necromancer who is either from the streets or has a commoner background who never recovered her sisters body from a centaur attack. I’m not sure about the other human character choices but when I played that I lost my sister I was asked where my family descended from and I choose Elona. I didn’t get to finish the personal story during the BWE but I do know the over arching story for GW2, which I won’t spoil here for those who haven’t read up on it. It will be interesting to see how your character helps shape the outcome of that story and how much your story & choices will change your personal instance in the home city. Either way I know that my story will be actually be that my story and boy do I have a story to tell.
p.s writing blog posts from work is tough >.<
