most of the hom points come from farming, or at least did for me - and alliance battles are a great place for that, as you can then trade in your faction points for z keys to sell
I feel like a noob all over again but what exactly are alliance battles. Is that like PvP with your alliance members? If so my alliance is pretty much dead at the moment so its unlikely I can do those.

you just need to be in a guild then go to one of the contested zones (solo) in factions such as jade quarry and que for the next pvp match. You get a sizeable amount of faction points even when losing so its not bad at all,
